Griffins Conditioning & Selection Camps

"The Griffins ended their Selection and Conditioning camp on a high note over the weekend by participating in an exhibition mini-tournament hosted in Finch, Ontario by the Cornwall Celtics. Teams from Akwesasne, Longueill and Cornwall completed the round robin schedule. Each team played three shorter running time games throughout the day, which allowed the coaches to evaluate a number of prospective players in a game situation. As might be expected this early in the season the games started off a bit sloppy in the morning but improved greatly in both skill and intensity as the day went on. The Griffins were able to defeat the host Cornwall team 6 - 3 in the first game but ran into a bit of penalty trouble in their second game against Akwesasne and dropped a vigorously contested match 3 -1. The Griffins closed out the day playing last years Quebec Junior League Champion, the Longueill Patriotes and started to show some more refined play in dropping the Quebec team 7 - 3. All in all a fine day of lacrosse and a great way to end the first phase of the Griffins training camp for 2008! The Griffins would like to thank the Cornwall Celtics for their hospitality in running a fine pre-season tournament.

The Griffins will now be entering the second and final stage of their training camp with Arena training sessions starting on Wednesday night and continuing over the next two weeks leading up to their home opener on Friday April 25th against the Nepean Knights. This phase of the Griffins training camp is by invite only, with those players that have participated in phase 1 of the Dome camps being directly issued an invite. Any other players interested in trying out for the Griffins must declare their interest by contacting Dave Smith at gm@gloucestergriffins.com as soon as possible to be included in the all important upcoming practice sessions."
